The fairy tale, the Little Mermaid (Den lille havfrue), was written in 1836. It was written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. It is about a young mermaid who is prepared to give up all she has to have an immortal soul and love from a prince. This story was translated into English by H. P. Paull [1872].
The Little Mermaid lives with her father the Sea King, her grandmother, and her 5 elder sisters, at the bottom of the sea. According to the story, when a mermaid turns 15, she is permitted to swim to the surface and watch the world above. As the young mermaid's sisters turn old enough, they each visit the surface. Each time, on of the elder sisters returns, the Little Mermaid listens eagerly to what they have seen, particularly their descriptions of human beings.
When the Little Mermaid turns 15, she goes to the surface. She sights a ship with a good-looking prince. She falls in love with him just by looking at him from afar. Next, a great storm arrives, and the prince almost drowns. However, the Little Mermaid rescues him. She waits until he is found by someone else, and the prince never gets to know who rescued him.
The prince and princess get married, and the Little Mermaid's is disappointed. All that she thought about will not come to pass for her now. Also, she had sacrificed her beautiful voice, her home, and her family. The Little Mermaid's sisters give her a knife. The Sea Witch gave them this knife in return for their hair. If the Little Mermaid kills the prince with the knife, she will turn into a mermaid again and gain everything back that she had given up earlier.
The Little Mermaid cannot kill the sleeping prince who is lying with his bride. When dawn breaks, she plunges into the sea. Her body becomes one with the sea foam. However, she does not cease to exist, and feels sun's warmth. She becomes a daughter of the air, and will gain an eternal soul.
However, gaining this soul was dependent on the prince. When 300 years go by, the Little Mermaid will have earned her soul and will ascend into the kingdom of God. This period can be cut short too.
The Little Mermaid Adaptations: A French composer Germaine Tailleferre (of Les Six) wrote an opera version of The Little Mermaid in 3 acts [1957].
The Little Mermaid was telecast on French National Radio in 1959. The Soviet animated version of the Little Mermaid [Rusalochka] was released in 1968. The 1975 feature-length film called Anderusen Dowa Ningyo Hime (Andersen's Story: The Mermaid Princess) was directed by Tomoharu Katsumata. In this version, the mermaid is depicted as a blonde named Marina. However, the plot was the same as the original. The dubbed English version was released in the United States in 1979.
The Little Mermaid statue: The statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen is placed in the Copenhagen harbor. It is a well-known symbol and a tourist attraction too. The rather small size of the statue is a surprise to first time tourists of this area.
So as you can see, I found out that The Little Mermaid is just a fairy tale from way back when. I guess we'll have to keep looking.
The scientists use clues such as a picture of a mermaid taken by two boys with a camera phone in Washington State, as well as remains found inside a shark in South Africa, in order to reconstruct a mermaid.
Perception of mermaids have changed much in the last week with 90% of tweets about mermaids say mermaids are real.

Hey, #mermaids aren't real! But Animal Planet's "documentary" about them still grabs record ratings http://t.co/hrcCOR94KA
@JLaValle
Hey @AnimalPlanet thanks for making me think mermaids were real and getting my hopes up! #fakes #thatswrong #yougotcaught

Evidence Of Real Mermaids
Holy Crap Mermaids? Real! Professional researchers have uncovered some compelling evidence that mermaids are a real genetic experiment like the human experiment.
My opinion on this video or rather the photos in this video is that they are mosly all fake unlike the video and pictures from the Mermaids New Evidence show.
With the new evidence, they were able to identify the sounds the mermaids were making, differentiating them from the whale and dolphin sounds, and then using those recordings to actually lure in the real mermaids.
Just the fact that the government went through the trouble to say that mermaids don't exist, tells me just the opposite.
Mermaids Dont Exist http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/mermaids-dont-exist Have you had a mermaid sighting. Federal Agency Squashes Mermaid Rumors. Some believe they are as real as fairies, or saints, or ghosts. The recent news from NOAA that mermaids
are, in fact, a myth resulted in a flurry of media coverage and
everything from mockery of the government to broken-hearted little
girls.
Government Agency Destroys Our Dreams by Revealing That Mermaids Aren't Real http://jezebel.com/5923513/government-agency-destroys-our-dreams-by-revealing-that-mermaids-arent-real It appears to be in response to a show that Animal Planet recently aired called Mermaids: The Body Found, in which they looked at whether there is "a kernel of truth that lives beneath the legend of the mythic mermaid".

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently

So are mermaids real? After watching The New Evidence on Animal Planet I'd have to say yes. Not in the way we think of mermaids but just like it. They don't have long flowing hair, nor are they all female, but it looks like they do exist. Take a look at this video these kids took on the beach where all whales had washed up. It seems the mermaids travel with the whales, communicating with them the whole way.
Take a look and tell me what you think.
It looks real to me. On the show, a guy who did not want to be identified says he kept it alive for a couple of years after the gov. got the mermaid off the beach. Makes you wonder. Anyway, this was the old evidence, the gov. confiscated everything, made these boys believe they saw a seal, but they had this cell phone video that no one thought to ask for.
Next on the list of sightings is the fisherman who seem to have caught a mermaid in their net. Looks convincing to me. They wind up dropping the whole net back over the side they got so scared.
Take a look:
I really dont think it could be a hoax, the water is rough and fisherman don't play like that, not commercial fisherman.
So in the New Evidence, they have footage of a mermaid taken by American tourists in Israel, the mermaid turns and looks up at the tourists as they are filming it. It seems they are up on a cliff overlooking the water. So it turns and looks at them then turns back around and slithers off the rock into the ocean. No person could have slithered off that rock with such ease.
Here is that video:
What are people on twitter saying about Mermaids?
@girlposts 90% of the ocean is undiscovered and you’re telling me mermaids dont exist @wittynate This is so obviously fake but, i've wasted an hour and a half on it already, and i'm not turning back now. ∆ #mermaids @kittenqueen_ RT @_samiches: MERMAIDS EXIST FUCK THE NONBELIEVERS @itsniena This show is convincing me! I'm starting to think Mermaids are real!😳 @emacthedon RT
@QuickTempa: We believe in God without asking for evidence. But for
mermaids, aliens or anything supernatural we ask for evidence in order
to believe. @phare11 Mermaids are real and it's the sickest thing ever @wittynate If you're not watching #Mermaids: the new evidence, on animal planet, then gtfo. ∆ @everlouise and apparently everything about the #mermaids documentary is fake...there goes all my hopes and dreams... @laurenleighc9 These fictional documentaries about mermaids are so convincing...whyy do you do this to me #discovery #mermaids @BBernal5 Made my stomach turn... http://t.co/RTrmjBrlWe #mermaids @amykelinda Tune
in next week, as Discovery Channel explores whether or not Encino Man
was a movie or documentary. #Mermaids #AreYouShittingMe @emilymarahall2 I believe in the #aqaticape theory. #mermaids aee real @HYP3KILLZ Are funking #mermaids real I scared as shit @Novacanex33 Apparently
#mermaids are no longer a mythical creature, they have "real footage of
mermaids" on #discovery channel....what's next a unicorn? @super_carnitas Mermaids are real??? So joog @jmedrano1414 RT @vsamaniego92: Now I'm so amused at the fact the mermaids are real! Why is this just now being brought to my attention? @Breiana7865 Instead of wondering if Mermaids are real or not people are worried about of they look like Ariel or not. Really?! @manatee76 @Pogue can you find out if the mermaids on animal planet are real or not???? @haleeyy607 Since mermaids are real who want to come find Ariel with me? #LittleMermaidForLyfe
Looks like a 50/50 split on believers and non believers. I believe after watching the shows twice. I don't think anything was faked. These people lost their jobs for this cause. The cause being to stop sonar testing with sonar weapons. Hell even the guys who got the footage of the new evidence said they had to listen for an hour to make sure no whales were in the area before they could begin the sonar testing they were doing. I'll post that footage when it becomes available, but nobody put it up yet.
